Students Stuck in Canyon Saved, Thanks to iPhone 14's SOS Feature

The Emergency SOS Satellite feature present on the iPhone 14 series has succeeded in saving people. Recently, three BYU (Brigham Young University) students were stranded in a ravine in the Utah area. The students were hiking through the arduous path which caused one of the students to develop symptoms of hypothermia after being stuck in the water for several hours.

The area where the students were stranded was about 500 feet from the sheer rock walls, and they lacked traditional cellular connectivity. Even so, they can use iPhone 14 Emergency SOS via Satellite to communicate with rescue workers. The students can share their location with emergency services, allowing rescue teams to find them.

The Emergency SOS via Satellite feature allows messaging with emergency services when outside the range of cellular or Wi-Fi signals. Once the iPhone device is connected to the satellite, emergency services can be contacted regardless of cellular and Wi-Fi connections. Satellite connectivity can also be used to share your location with friends and family.

Sperm Injection via Robot Successfully Produces First Baby

Out there, there are several startup companies working to automate the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF). One of them is Overture Life, which has developed a sperm injection robot which it claims is the first step towards automation of IVF. This has the potential to make the IVF procedure even cheaper and much more common than it is today.

One of the engineers used a Sony PlayStation 5 controller to position the robotic needle, which guides a human egg through the camera and then moves forward on its own, piercing the egg and releasing a single sperm. The robot was used to fertilize more than a dozen eggs, resulting in healthy embryos and two baby girls, who the researchers said were the first to be born after "robot" fertilization.

Other startups, such as AutoIVF, IVF 2.0, Conceivable Life Sciences, and Fertilis, have a similar goal of automating IVF and making it more accessible to patients who can't afford the high costs of IVF treatments. Overture alone has raised around $37 million from investors, including Khosla Ventures and Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube.

The goal of IVF automation is to produce more babies — around 500,000 children are born via IVF globally each year. But, most people who need help having children either don't have access to fertility drugs or can't afford them. Still, fully automating IVF won't be easy, as the process involves a dozen procedures - and this Overture robot does only a fraction. Other doctors are still skeptical that robots can, or should, replace embryologists in the near future, because humans are so much better than machines at delicately handling sperm and eggs.

Sluggish Sales, Nvidia Temporarily Stops RTX 4070 Production

The classic economic principle that is commonly used today is to shop according to the capacity of your wallet. This is the case with the recently launched RTX 4070 GPU by Nvidia priced in the US$600 range. Gamers as the main consumers of graphics cards seem quite fed up with the price offered by Nvidia for its GPU 40 series. The reason is, there are allegations that Nvidia temporarily stopped production of the card a week after its launch.

The RTX 4070 launched on April 13, 2023, so this GPU is relatively new. Monitoring stock availability at the Best Buy store, the item was available for nearly eight hours. California Is Hit By Elusive Bacteria That Were Called Dormant

Recently a man in California, United States infected Borrelia Miyamotoi, a corkscrew-shaped spirochete bacterium that causes a rare disease called intractable tick fever that is spread by black-legged ticks. Borrelia miyamotoi has been in the area for more than two decades. However, researchers have concerns that new pathogens will emerge there because Borrelia miyamotoi is a relative of the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi that causes Lyme disease.

Based on tick data collected in California since 2000, it was found that they carried a new spirochete bacteria. But for the first case of disease caused by Borrelia miyamotoi in the US, it was only confirmed at the end of 2013 in the Northeast region. Since then, no further confirmed cases have been reported in the western region of the country.

The hallmark of this disease is fever that comes and goes, accompanied by fatigue, chills, and aches and pains. In severe cases, this disease can develop into inflammation of the brain and surrounding tissue. However, in most cases, the disease resolves on its own. Infected people tend to show low levels of white blood cells and platelets, elevated liver enzymes, and excess protein in their urine.

The only correct method for identifying Borrelia miyamotoi infection is by looking directly at the sequence of genetic fragments in a person's blood or cerebrospinal fluid. It can only be done in certain laboratories. Thus, fewer and fewer cases have been identified so that researchers have not been able to run further clinical trials. AI Finds Early Signs of Lung Cancer that Doctors Can't Detect

Cancer detection as early as possible is very important in an effort to increase patient survival rates, especially in preventing the spread of cancer throughout the body. However, what if the doctor cannot see the early signs of cancer that is already in the patient.

Now, that concern can be slightly pushed aside. Recently, researchers in Massachusetts developed artificial intelligence (AI) that can detect signs of lung cancer, even years before doctors can make a perfect diagnosis.

This AI tool is named Sybil and it works by scanning the results of a computerized tomography (CT) scan of the patient's lung organs. Next, Sybil analyzes 3D images of the patient's lungs and looks for growths and patterns that are very small beyond the reach of the human eye.

Then, the results of these findings will be assessed whether a patient has the potential to have lung cancer in the next one to six years or not. In a series of studies using thousands of volunteer CT data, Sybil accuracy rates were found to range between 75% and 94%.

The location of the lungs themselves are deep in the body so they cannot be easily seen or felt. Conventional early detection methods are less effective in detecting lung cancer, so the only way to see the internal organs of the lungs is through a CT scan.

However, sometimes the CT scan results are too small or fine to be captured by the naked eye. This means lung cancer cells are not detected until the patient has symptoms such as chest pain or shortness of breath. Unfortunately when it gets to this point, cancer is much more difficult to treat. Sybil is able to identify subtle patterns that are difficult for the human eye to identify and make an analysis of whether a patient has the potential to have cancer or not.

The control system is managed by a controller area network (CAN), an IoT protocol that allows devices and microcontrollers in a car to communicate with each other.

By manipulating the electronic control unit (ECU) in the Toyota RAV4 headlights. Once connected via the headlights, an attacker can gain access to the CAN bus, which is responsible for functions such as the parking brake, headlights and smart locks, and then to the powertrain panel where the engine controls are located. While hacking high-end cars is nothing new, this attack method highlights the vulnerabilities in the IoT protocol, necessitating greater security measures in automotive systems. However, recently dairy farms in New England are experimenting with converting cow manure into energy by burning the biogas found in cow dung. This is because in cow dung there are microorganisms that can break down organic matter into methane.

On the Massachusetts dairy farm, there is a 550,000-gallon underground tank capable of processing about 9,000 tons of cow manure per year. This oxygen-free tank mixes sewage waste at temperatures of 95 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit, and further encourages bacteria to feed on carbon, nitrogen, and other organic matter.

This process is known as anaerobic digestion, where methane is finally produced. Next, through a network of pipes, the gas is then directed to a special engine that burns methane to produce heat and electricity. The remaining organic matter that cannot be digested after the anaerobic process can still be used for agricultural purposes.

Di peternakan sapi perah Massachusetts, terdapat tangki bawah tanah berukuran 550.000 galon yang mampu memproses sekitar 9.000 ton kotoran sapi per tahun. Tangki bebas oksigen ini mencampur limbah tahi pada suhu 95 dan 105 derajat Fahrenheit, dan selanjutnya mendorong bakteri untuk memakan karbon, nitrogen, dan bahan organik lainnya.

However, Google assures users that this limitation will only affect a small number of users and does not affect most of the rest.

Users have started receiving notifications from Google Drive instructing them to delete millions of files to meet the new requirements. Some people who use the service are unable to even upload files to Drive without an explanation with a message appearing: "Error 403: This account has exceeded the 5 million item creation limit". Next, the user is directed to move the file to the trash and permanently delete it to make room for new uploads.

Despite these issues, Google's documentation for Drive is still lacking in mention of the newly imposed limits, making it difficult for users to stay up to date on these unannounced changes. This development highlights the need for effective communication between companies and users.

Yap, hal ini diwujudkan dengan adanya ekstensi Google Chrome yang menawarkan akses cepat ke ChatGPT (AI chatbot) hanya dengan beberapa klik. Namun ternyata, ekstensi tersebut justru memanen data dan bahkan meminta akses administratif ke akun Facebook penggunanya.

Ekstensi ini bernama “Quick access to ChatGPT” dan sempat tersedia di Chrome Web Store pada tanggal 3 Maret s.d. 9 Maret 2023. Walau terbilang singkat, ekstensi tersebut telah diunduh oleh 2.000 orang pengguna Chrome. Ekstensi ini memang menyediakan akses itu dengan menghubungkan ke API ChatGPT. Namun di saat yang bersamaan, ia juga mencuri data pengguna.

Perusahaan keamanan siber Guardio menemukan bahwa ekstensi browser tersebut memanen semua cookie yang disimpan di browser dan mencuri token sesi yang diautentikasi untuk Google, YouTube, Facebook, dan Twitter. Inilah yang memungkinkan ekstensi untuk mengakses API Grafik Meta, yang biasanya digunakan pengembang untuk membuat aplikasi yang kompatibel dengan Facebook.

Fake ChatGPT Browser Extension Grab Thousands of User Data and Steal Facebook Business Accounts

The more popular something is, the more people are looking for loopholes to exploit it. Yep, this is realized by the existence of a Google Chrome extension that offers fast access to ChatGPT (AI chatbot) with just a few clicks. But apparently, the extension actually harvests data and even asks for administrative access to its user's Facebook account.

This extension is called "Quick access to ChatGPT" and was available in the Chrome Web Store from March 3 to 31. March 9, 2023. Although relatively short, the extension has been downloaded by 2,000 Chrome users. This extension does provide that access by connecting to the ChatGPT API. But at the same time, it also steals user data.

Cybersecurity firm Guardio discovered that the browser extension harvested all cookies stored on the browser and stole authenticated session tokens for Google, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. This is what allows the extension to access the Meta Graph API, which is what developers typically use to build Facebook-compatible apps.

Furthermore, this extension can access Facebook account details and act on behalf of the user. Some of these actions include registering malicious Facebook apps on user accounts, requesting all available permissions, including those involving linked WhatsApp and Instagram accounts. For Facebook Business accounts, the extension retrieves data on active promotions, credit balance, minimum billing threshold, and credit facility information.
